I'm the COO of a venture studio.
Usually, when I tell people that, it only creates confusion and I come off sounding like a douchebag.
As a result, I try to delay the "So what do you do for work?" exchange with other parents at kindergarten pickup for as long as possible.
My custom work GPT kinda nails it though...
Simple / casual answer
"I run operations for a venture studio that builds and scales tech companies."
Professional but concise
"I'm the COO of Lincoln Labs. We operate a portfolio of marketing, software, and outsourcing companies."
Despite my role's ambiguity – in fact, likely due to its ambiguity – this job is, as my wife might say, very "aligned with me."

My family in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Lincoln Labs company retreat, 2023.

Me with (most of) our global team at the Lincoln Labs summer retreat in Uzbekistan, 2025.
I've officialy been an operator since 2022. For the ten years prior to that, I was a Product Manager turned VP of Product / CPO.

I've been designing and building web-based applications since I was a wee lad… maybe 10 years old. I pirated Photoshop, tore through tutorials, and copy pasta'd every JavaScript liquify effect that I could find on Ask Jeeves.
25+ years later, I'm still geeking out over UI interactivity. Have you tried all my sweet config options yet? : )
Here, let's take a gummy bear break.
These days, I'm spending less time creating PSDs, and more time creating shareholder value. But I still love finding ways to sink my teeth into juicy creative projects (like building this website).
Fortunately for people like me (creatives-turned-biz pros), this AI bubble revolution has brought about tools that let anyone create complex things that once required entire teams.
My job, now, is to put these tools to work across organizations to drive efficient scale.
